EMTECH SPACE – prime contractor of the Hellenic Space Dawn (HSD) mission of the Greek Cubesat In-orbit Validation Programme – has selected Telespazio Germany’s platform for constellation management, EASE-Rise, as their Ground Mission Control Solution.

Using its cloud-native platform, Telespazio will deliver monitoring, control, planning, and integration services with an innovative software-as-a-service approach for the entire constellation’s lifespan. Additionally, Telespazio will offer engineering support, encompassing software and operational assistance, during the project’s operational phase.

The Hellenic Space Dawn Mission aims to validate Greek space technologies both in orbit and on the ground, enhancing the country’s space capabilities and fostering international collaborations with organizations like ESA. The mission involves a two-satellite constellation and a comprehensive ground segment, consisting of optical and RF (S/X-band) ground stations, a mission control system at EMTECH premises, and a Payload Data Ground Segment utilizing secure cloud technologies. The mission promotes secure high-speed optical communication between satellite and ground, as well as secure inter-satellite RF communication. Furthermore, it enables various Earth Observation applications, such as ship detection, coastal flood monitoring, and agriculture. Key features include near real-time response, high image resolution, and on-board image processing.

EMTECH SPACE S.A. is proud to lead a robust collaboration with leading Greek SMEs and academic institutions for the mission. Integrated Systems Development (ISD S.A.) oversees payload development, provides microelectronic integrated circuits and high-performance EDGE processing modules, and manages AIT/AIV activities. HERON Engineering handles mechanical engineering aspects, while Geosystems Hellas develops Earth Observation applications and the Payload Data Ground Segment. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki offers expertise in system simulations and CubeSat missions, and National Kapodistrian University of Athens supports onboard processing for image compression algorithms. The Hellenic Naval Academy contributes to optical communication experiment simulations.

Nikolaos-Antonios Livanos, Founder and Managing Director of EMTECH SPACE S.A., expressed, “We are pleased to extend our collaboration with Telespazio, especially in this critical project for EMTECH. The selection of EASE-Rise was driven by our aim to reduce risk by utilising a proven product supported by the esteemed company Telespazio, thereby further strengthening our relationship with both organisations.”

EMTECH SPACE S.A.’s strategy extends beyond the HSD mission, with an aim to become a leading operator for future CubeSat missions, serving both Greek and international partners. To achieve this, the company is in the process of registering as a space mission operator with the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance. EMTECH SPACE S.A. assumes a critical role in mission operations, overseeing the seamless execution of tasks and ensuring the success of space missions. With a wealth of experience and expertise, EMTECH spearheads the development of Mission Control Systems (MCS), vital components that facilitate communication, data management, and control of spacecraft and satellites. Through meticulous planning, implementation, and continuous monitoring, EMTECH ensures the smooth operation of missions, adhering to stringent standards of reliability and efficiency. For this purpose, the solution selected is EASE-Rise, the first end-to-end cloud platform for space operations that allows easy, scalable and cost-efficient management of space assets.

“It is a pleasure for us to once again collaborate with a company like EMTECH and assist them in their mission to validate Greek space technologies both in orbit and on the ground, strengthening Greece’s space capabilities” commented Sigmar Keller, Chief Executive Officer at Telespazio Germany. “This is a very exciting project, and we are thrilled that they have entrusted us with the Mission Control Solution of the HSD mission.”
